Pengelli Cottage is situated on Pengelli Farm, a 250 acre working beef and sheep farm in the heart of rural Pembrokeshire, situated a few miles off the main road between Newport and Cardigan.
Boasting spectacular views of the Preseli Hills and of Mynydd Carningli- (translates to Angel Mountain), well worth a climb at 1138ft, with stunning views of Newport Bay and the Preseli Mountains.
The Cottage is tucked down a quiet country lane, with the only noise being that of the birds singing, sheep bleating, quad bikes doing the daily rounds and tractors working in the nearby fields. An opportunity to experience the sights and sounds of the countryside.
We have fantastic walking from the door. Less than 1/2 mile walk down a quiet country lane is Pengelli Forest, a 160 acre wood, which is part of the largest ancient oak woodland in West Wales, offering extensive walks. Enjoy a slightly longer walk to Castell Henllys, a reconstructed Iron Age Hill Fort set in 30 acres of woodland and river meadows. This also provides further great walking and a café.
We are ideally located for visiting the Pembrokeshire coast, being located between the beaches of Newport and Poppit Sands, and close to the popular Pembrokeshire coast path. (spanning 186 miles).
There is some increased activity during harvest and lambing times. Lambing time is a particularly special time for us on the farm, which takes place from February until May. Although this means long working hours for us and the farm is a hive of activity during this time, on the plus side, you will often see the newborn lambs playing in the fields around the cottage. There may sometimes be the opportunity to help bottle feed some of our orphan lambs.
The Cottage
The property itself is attached to the owners’ home, but has its own private access with separate entrance, parking area and garden. There is access straight from your cottage door to a very large, enclosed play area making it ideal for both children and your four legged friends
The cottage sleeps up to six people, in three bedrooms
- Bedroom one – King bed
- Bedroom Two – Twin beds that can also be zip and linked to King size, also sofa bed in this room that can provide additional bed
- Bedroom three – Single bed
The Cottage has a farmhouse kitchen with AGA, cosy living room with log burner, and modern family bathroom with shower and bath. Heating is by way of oil central heating and log burner in the living room. First basket of logs for the log burner are provided free and more available to buy from the farm.
This cottage is ideal for all – family holidays, walkers, dog walkers and bird watchers alike.
We know part of the pleasure of a holiday is bringing your dog with you.We therefore welcome well-behaved dogs and their owners.
North Pembrokeshire is a great place to bring your dog, with many wonderful walks and beautiful dog-friendly beaches. We have several sheepdogs, several are working dogs, and also a springer spaniel who thinks he’s a sheepdog! We are familiar with many of the best places to go with your dog and are happy to recommend walks or places to visit. Many of the beaches nearby are dog-friendly, although some to have dog bans during May –September. Poppit Sands and Newport sands are both dog-friendly all year round, with only a small section of the beach where dogs are not welcome. Many of the places we recommend to eat in the welcome book are pet-friendly and we are happy to provide suggestions for you. Whilst we are happy for you to leave your four legged friends at the cottage while you go out, we do ask that they don’t just get the run of the entire cottage.
